Our week in San Diego

HOME | ONLINE PHOTO ALBUM

Elizabeth's father was turning 70 this year, and as part of this celebration, most of the Pincock side of the family met up in San Diego to camp and make old jokes.

When we were waiting in line to check in at the Sacramento airport I noticed this sign that listed the prohibited carry on items. Sitting alonside a laundry list of items such as dynamite, platic explosives, swords, and automatic weapons, we noticed the most absurd listing of all: Toy Transformer Robots (Which Form Toy Gun). What the heck? Why is this included in the official FAA prohibited list? I am trying to imagine the precedent that was set to cause this to be included on the list.

HIJACKER: Alright everyone this is a hijacking! (Holds up transformer robot)

PASSENGERS: (Laughing) That's a transformer you moron!

HIJACKER: Oh yeah? (several seconds of transforming occur) It's a gun now! Open the cockpit!

PASSENGERS: (Screaming) Do what he says! He has a gun, we are all gonna die!!

Sometimes I think we are a little too serious about what we do in the airports.

I am happy when I see things that confirm to me that Jason is a typical boy. For instance, he watched intently while my nephews and I were sword fighting. When I handed him a sword, he waved it wildly trying to inflict injury. He doesn't have in interest in dolls or stuffed animals, but he will push a toy car all over the place and is slowly learning how to use an array of toy weapons. I just hope he doesn't think about taking a toy transformer robot that transforms into a toy gun to the airport any time soon.

We had a couple of beach days while in San Diego. Jason played with his cousins and had a good time. Here he is debating whether to pee his pants or eat a fistful of sand.

Aunt Shelly has some sort of magic method that seems to make Jason sleep quickly. We like it when her family is around because she likes to hold him, and we like quiet time, so it works out. Oh yeah, her four children are ok to be around too.

The family camped at Dixon Lake for a few days. On Norm's birthday, he rented a Harley and drove all the grandkids around the lake. Like the typical boy he is, Jason was excited about Harley. They didn't have a helmet that would fit him, or else he would have gone for a ride.

It was hot, and after several water balloon wars we were ready for some rest.

Did you know that Grandpa sings in a barbershop quartet? He is bass. Here they are performing for the crowd at his birthday party.

The kids really enjoyed it

What would a birthday party be without a pinata? Emma takes her turn as Pasha waits in the wings. Pasha had a good swing, we had to cut his turn short before he smashed it apart.

One night we had a bonfire in the backyard. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows and sang along with Doug on the guitar.

Doug, Grace, Amanda and Emma enjoying the fireside music. All of Doug's kids know his songs and sing along with him, it is cute. I think the most popular sing-a-long songs were The Cars "Best Friend's Girl", and The Eagles "Take It Easy".

One morning we went for hike around the lake with all the grandkids. Jason did more dangling than he did hiking, but we like it that way.

This is the story of Jason around the campsite. He didn't want anyone to hold him expect for mommy. No one was good enough, not even dad. He did better once we were done camping.

See? He loves his mommy. This was another day at the beach. While Elizabeth and Jason were at the beach making out, I went surfing for the second time in the week with Preston. The surf at Swami's was nearly perfect and the sun was shining. Oh how we miss the beach! Let's go back.
